Philanthropy

We live in a society that promotes achievement of all kinds: financial, athletic, artistic.  Parents must be concerned about producing children who are also wrapped up in goodness.  Rabbi David J. Wolpe

The Sugar Bowl Ski Team Foundation exists to create a community that develops the mind, body, and spirit of the world's snowsports athletes.

The Board of Directors of the Sugar Bowl Ski Team Foundation created this Ends Policy after careful consideration and in-depth discussion of the question: "how will the world be a better place because of the existence of your organization?"  That is, what will the programs of the Foundation actually produce?

Unlike a business or for-profit corporation, our "product" is not an object or even a service.  If you look closely, you will see it is two things:  community and people.  And not just any people, but people who are able to be fully what they are, each in their own, most individual, unique, and beautiful manner.  And in being what they are, they must learn their value and worth towards improving the condition of the world.

As we do our work to fulfill the End of creating educated, proficient, and caring people, it is necessary that we attend also to community, in all its multi-faceted complexity.  A healthy and thriving community both depends upon and creates conditions critical to the healthy and positive development of its children.

The community at Sugar Bowl is unique in a number of ways: it is composed primarily of people who have their second homes here, or who commute in from surrounding areas to work or enjoy recreation.  This could provide a challenge, if it weren't for the fact that the community is united around several very powerful traditions: love of family, love of nature, and dedication to a single intense focus: snowsport.

While the Sugar Bowl Corporation plays its crucial role in providing the high-quality service and unique atmosphere to maintain this tradition and the patrons provide the love of snowsports and financial support for the resort's existence, the Sugar Bowl Ski Team Foundation is also critical to the ongoing health and vitality of the community.

That is why all those who care about Sugar Bowl invest not only in the education of children but in the future of the resort when they donate funds to the ski team.
